Grants for MP’s – E-bikes (UK)

MPs have been given a tax break to buy electric bikes — and will be entitled to claim 20p a mile if they use them for official business.

They were told of the allowance as they headed off for a 40-day summer recess on Thursday. The £1,000 limit for buying a bike through the Cycle2Work scheme has been increased to £2,500.

Under the scheme, the 650 MPs and their staff of more than 3,000 can buy a bike and accessories with a tax break of up to 42% through salary sacrifice for higher-rate tax payers. They are allowed to include panniers, child seats and other equipment.
